The ThermoPop is an inexpensive, high-performance, rapid-read handheld thermometer for food usage. It has a rotating display that makes it easy to read from any angle. It cannot be left in the oven or grill while cooking. This review has been updated to reflect a redesign of the probe which results in faster response times and apparently better accuracy, and is now called the ThermoPop 2. This iteration is available in two variations that differ in the probe length. The standard unit has a probe length of 4.5″ (11.5cm) while the longer version is 8″ (20cm). The prices are currently $35 and $42, respectively.
This unit gives very good accuracy and response time in an affordable package. It is switchable between Fahrenheit and Celsius. The display can be changed to one of four positions so that it can be easily read from any angle. The display is backlit for 10 seconds by pressing the Power switch. It will auto-shutoff after 10 minutes to save battery power, although with 5000 hours per battery, that might not be a huge concern.
The manual is simple and straightforward, given the simplicity of the device. The warranty isn’t explicitly stated, but the company has an excellent reputation for standing behind its products. The address and telephone number are on the instruction sheet.
