The ThermoPro TP-20 Remote Thermometer is a two-probe remote reading thermometer with a timer function. The remote and base units communicate via RF signals using a proprietary protocol, not Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Both the sending and receiving units are clad in a rubberized covering to protect against damage from drops.
The two units will establish communications automatically when turned on. The temperature display on the sending unit toggles back and forth between probe 1 and probe 2, displaying the temperatures in either ºF or ºC. There is no backlight feature on the transmitter.

The receiver display both temperatures simultaneously, in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. The user can select alarm temperatures for each probe using either the USDA recommendations or a setting of your choice. There is only an upper limit, so its use as a cooker monitor is somewhat limited. Both probes are identical, so either can be used to measure food or cooker temps. The cable length is only 40″ (1m), on the short side for outdoor barbecue use. There is a grill grate clip to facilitate mounting a probe to measure the cooker status. When an alarm threshold is reached, the backlight illuminates, the display temp flashes, and a beeper goes off. The alarm can be silenced with the push of a button. There is a button to illuminate the display backlight.
There is an up/down timer that will run simultaneously with the temperature alarms. When in count-down mode, it will flash and beep when it times out. Time is displayed independently of the temperatures, and can be set up to 99 hours and 59 minutes in either mode.
The manufacturer does not specify the range between the units, although there is an alarm if communications are lost for more than 4 minutes. The receiver will shut off after 30 minutes without a signal from the transmitter, after sounding an alarm.
Warranty
The manufacturer sounds the usual caveats about keeping the probes dry and away from open flames. There is no strain-relief or sealing, beyond a crimp, where the braided cable enters the probe. Probes that fail within the warranty period, one year, will be replaced free of charge. The user is cautioned not to leave the transmitter out in the rain – it’s not waterproof.

This unit has the basic feature set found in equipment of this type. The build is adequate for home use. Accuracy is acceptable, if not stellar. Overall, I’ll give this a silver medal for meeting expectations at a fair price.
