The ThermoPro TP-17 is a good, basic dual-probe food thermometer with an up/down timer function.
The display unit has two switches on the rear: on/temperature/timer and F/C temp scale. In the temperature mode, both probes’ readings are displayed on the screen, along with their set temperatures. In the timer mode, only one probe’s temperature is displayed in the top row, and the timer’s setting is displayed in the second row. The top row will toggle between probe 1 and probe 2 readings. Even though only one channel is displayed at a time, they are both fully functional.
ThermoPro TP-17 Dual-Probe Thermometer Features
The timer can operate in a count-up or count-down fashion. If the timer is cleared, then started, it will count up. If you enter a time in hours and minutes, up to 99 hours and 59 minutes, it will count down. You start and stop the timer using the right-hand button on the display. When the count-down timer reaches zero, the backlight will flash and an audible alarm sounds.
Temperature settings on this unit have only an upper limit. They can be set by selecting the meat and doneness using the right-hand button, or you can set your own values using the up and down buttons. Each channel’s setting is independent of the other. The temperature alarms must be set while in the temperature mode; they cannot be set in timer mode. When the set temperature is reached in either mode, the display number for that channel will flash and the backlight will blink, accompanied by an audible alarm.
The probes are 6″ (15cm) long with a kink 4″ (10cm) from the tip. The cables are contained within a stainless steel braid. The probes should not be exposed to flame or submerged in water. The cable is more rugged than most and comes with a lifetime warranty. Yeah, really!
The battery door is not sealed against moisture. There is a folding stand on the back as well as a pair of magnets to hold the unit against a steel surface. The backlight comes on with the press of any button and times out after about ten seconds.

Warranty
While the probes come with a lifetime warranty, the electronics display has a one-year limited warranty. The company’s contact info, including a telephone number, e-mail address, and website, is included in the owner’s manual and on a card in the box.
