This thermometer has both a meat probe and an infrared sensor. Either mode can be activated by itself or in tandem. It features high accuracy and a quick response time. It cannot be left in the oven while cooking.
A handy carrying case is included for storage. There are three lights on the unit that indicate the safe food storage temperature ranges. A green light glows if the temperature is below 40ºF. Another glows red if the temperature is between 40ºF and 140ºF, indicating an unsafe temperature at which to store food for long periods. A third light shows when the food temperature is safely above 140ºF. The infrared sensor can be adjusted for different emissivity values and has a light that illuminated the area where the temperature is being measured. The meat probe is arguably on the wrong end of the unit, making reading it slightly awkward. There is no backlight on the readout.

The unit comes with a two year limited warranty. The manufacturer’s contact information is printed on the packaging and on the enclosed user’s manual, which is thorough.
This reviewer is undecided about the utility of infrared sensors on cooking thermometer, but likes this unit for its performance. The price is on the high side, but not unreasonable. We give it a silver rating.
