This inexpensive meat probe thermometer performs well and had several innovative features. There is a magnet on the rear to allow the unit to be attached to any steel surface. The cable length is a longer 4 feet (1.2 meters).
The thermometer has an expanded list of meat types and their associated recommended cooking temperatures programmed in. The user can reprogram these using the Amazing Ribs meat temperature recommendations, and these user settings persist even when the unit is turned off. You can also use a PGM setting if you want to set your own target temperature without messing with the standard settings.
As the food temperature rises, the beeper will give a ten degree warning before the preset temperature is reached. At the preset temperature, another audible warning will be sounded. If cooking continues ten degrees past the preset, yet another warning will go off and the count-up timer will start so you will know how long you’ve overcooked the food.
In addition to the temperature alerts, there is a count up/down timer. In the count down mode, an alarm will sound when zero is reached. The range of the timer is 20 hours. You can set hours, minutes and seconds into the timer.
The manufacturer’s contact info, including address, website and telephone number, is found in the owner’s manual. The unit is covered by a 90-day limited warranty.
The combination of low price and innovative features earn this thermometer a Silver medal.
