Mister Buddy Mats are under my grills and smokers for two reasons. The ones on my wooden deck produce hot coals and sparks and I like my deck and want to keep it. The ones on my patio pavers drip grease and I don’t like the vermin that grease attracts and I don’t like sleeping on the couch.
Made in the USA from recycled rubber tires, the manufacturer says each mat keeps a tire out of the landfill. I have tested them for a year in the sweltering heat and freezing cold of Chicago. Mister Buddy mats are smooth on one side for easy cleanup and ribbed on the other side for air circulation to prevent mold and mildew.

The manufacturer says they have passed stringent safety tests for fire and heat and they are rated UL-94 and FMVSS. Drop a hot coal on one and it might melt a small hole but it won’t catch on fire. They are impermeable to fats, marinades, and sauces and easy to clean with soap and water. They are absolutely essential for turkey fryers which often overflow and always spatter. You can also use them under motorcycles, lawnmowers, snowblowers, however you cannot use them under fire pits.
Mister Buddy Mats come in four sizes. When they arrive rolled up they want to stay rolled up. But after you leave them unrolled in the sun for a few days they flatten out pretty well. On Amazon some buyers complain the edges remain curled for a while. Smaller 36-inch mats sell for about $37 on Amazon and larger ones, 72 x 48-inches, go for about $90.
