ChefsTemp Quad XPro Review And Rating

ChefsTemp Quad Xpro Review.

The ChefsTemp Quad XPro is a four-channel food thermometer with a transmitter and receiver that the manufacturer claims can stay in touch up to 500 feet under ideal conditions.

Features

The unit comes with four probes: three L-shaped food probes and one straight probe with a grill clip to measure the cooker’s internal temperature. Each channel can have its own low and high-temperature alarm thresholds set independently. When the alarm thresholds are exceeded, the backlight flashes, and an audible alarm sounds. The alarm volume is adjustable. The alarm is annunciated at both the transmitter and the receiver. All alarm settings are made at the transmitter end, so it can be used with or without the remote receiver. One cannot set the alarm thresholds from the remote.

Like most wired probes, care must be taken to avoid excessively high-temperature exposure. The probes are rated as waterproof, but the manual advises not to submerge the probes. To ease probe identity, the package comes with multi-colored donuts that can be placed at the probe and at its plug so you know which probe is connected to which channel. Each channel can be independently calibrated if maximum accuracy is needed.

Ease of Use

The transmitter and receiver are intuitively easy to set up so the well-organized instruction manual is almost unnecessary. The booklet is nevertheless clear and printed on heavy stock paper so it should last. The transmitter and the receiver each operate on two AA batteries that are NOT included. Both units are reasonably well-sealed with a splashproof moisture rating. There are magnets on the back of each but the user is advised not to attach the units to hot surfaces. The accuracy is good on all probes.

The manual is one of the better examples I’ve seen, featuring clear, well-written explanations. There is a troubleshooting section to help the user get through technical difficulties. Contact info includes a telephone number, a website address, an e-mail address, and a couple of social media links. The warranty isn’t stated in either the manual or the company’s website.

This thermometer doesn’t break any new ground in terms of features or performance, but it does everything it’s designed to do. Construction is good with rubber surroundings to avoid damage if dropped. The battery boxes have seals to prevent water ingress, but the input jacks aren’t sealed, leaving some moisture entry points.

Overall, there is nothing to complain about with the ChefsTemp Quad XPro. The price is a very reasonable $80. It hits all the high notes in terms of features. It’s easy to use and should be reliable. We’ll give it a Gold Medal for performance at a budget price.
