Old Smokey Medium 18 Charcoal Grill

The Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #18 Medium is a drum shaped charcoal grill that’s been around since 1953. It is made from aluminized steel and comes with an 18″ diameter cooking grate which sits in the mid-section of Old Smokey above the charcoal grate. The coal grate is a round disc with vent holes radiating from the center. There is bottom damper under the coal and a top damper on the lid.

Medium #18 is their most popular size, meant to cook for 4 to 6 people. A small 14″ model and large 22″ model are also available. While designed to grill, some owners claim Old Smokey lives up to its name for low and slow BBQ smoking as well.

This is an old fashioned, very basic design. The aluminized metal construction should be more durable than the ubiquitous El Cheapo Bullets of today and you can’t beat the price. We haven’t tested Old Smokey yet. There’s something here to love, but is it just nostalgia? Be that as it may, many owners are nuts about their Old Smokeys.
