Thin Porcelain Enamel Coated Grates Work Reasonably Well

enamel coated grates

With Proper Care, These Grill Grates Will Last for Years

A sturdy porcelain enamel coating is applied to a variety of metals of different weights. You’ll find enamel coated cast iron and tempered steel on both rods and on upside down U shaped rails. Porcelain is easy to clean. Dropping them can crack them, and after many uses heating and cooling can make micro cracks and then they start to rust. Also, vigorous scrubbing and scraping can scratch them and eventually wear off the coating. But with proper care they work just fine for years, and they are a lot cheaper than stainless. I prefer the thin rods over the U shaped rails so the grill grate doesn’t block the radiant heat needed to brown the surfaces of foods.
